Coping and Living with Chronic Illness

AMAZING CONVERSATIONS

Just watched Nina Simonds and Rebecca Scott (Rebeccascottcoaching.com) talking about chronic illness- the 3 leadership lessons she has learned from dealing with MS and how they apply to leading through any complex challenge. (Had not intended to watch this but I think it was meant to be and it was so insightful.)

What are the lessons we can learn from navigating any chronic illness.?

As someone with some insight into mobility issues, the conversation really resonated especially the having "to make sense of my world and navigating what I can control- requires a shift in identity."

"Waking up everyday and having to deal with the uncertainty, and not knowing how your body will behave." Rebecca Scott.

How to rise above the "helpless mode" and focus on the things we can control. "It always comes down to awareness and mindset."

Easier said than done, I know, when you are struggling to get out of bed! And for many returning back to normal is going to stir up all kinds of anxieties.

Great interview and exploration of our experiences of chronic illness and exploring what is within our control. The importance of self awareness and the importance of understanding the complexities of chronic illness.

Check out the video:

I was talking earlier to Jane Green MA Ed exAHTabout Ehlers–Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility disorders and how debilitating this can be for those living with these

Check out Jane Green MA Ed exAHT's profile, her work is truly inspiring.

I can't help but think that the Pandemic has brought a new understanding and appreciation for those suffering from silent disabilities and the unacknowledged suffering of so many. "when you go through a chronic illness and having to navigate this"

We now have an insight and preview into some of the suffering many endure inc. children. It has brought new found compassion and empathy as we all come to terms with feelings of helplessness and dealing with uncertainty, requiring us to hold onto what we are grateful for and how to build resilience and new hope.

Check out the toolkit which Jane Green MA Ed exAHTcontributed to for helping support pupils with joint hypermobility syndrome (JHS) or the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS).

Thank you Nina Simonds. And to Rebecca Scott who is so in touch with her experiences of chronic illness and talks candidly and openly about struggling to put on her panties and trousers in the mornings. When we struggle, some of the things we think matter don't really matter any more!

I will leave you with these wise words from Rebecca Scott "Being able to celebrate whatever small wins we have, can boost everyone."
